The fanfiction „No Ordinary Imprint“ by Camogal, originally published on fanfiction.net and found on http://theotherguystwilightfanfiction.wordpress.com/, is a story dealing with the imprinting phenomenon. It dives back into the story 4 years after the events of “Breaking Dawn” and expresses a possible future course the story might have taken.

It is a great example to show how many aspects of the twilight saga have left room for further interpretations and a continuing plot line. When the story ended with the last book “Breaking Dawn” the main plotlines were closed and resolved. However, so many fantastic elements and issues have been addressed over the course of the four books that fans have plenty of opportunities to elaborate their own spin of stories.

This story taps into the topic of imprinting which is introduced in the 2nd book “New Moon” and plays a subliminal role throughout book two and three, until it becomes a decisive factor for the plot in “Breaking Dawn” where Jacobs imprints on Bella’s daughter. Since the whole imprinting story served mainly for the purpose of resolving and explaining the triangle relationship and emotional arrangement between Edward, Bella and Jacob, it offers a broad opportunity to elaborate on the phenomenon and apply it for other characters.

This fanfiction exemplifies fans creativity and interest regarding an ongoing plotline. In this case the topic of imprinting seems to be most of interest, however it also reveals a more general fact, that the happy end of “Breaking Dawn” did not mean that all fans were completely satisfied and that many see much more potential in the different subliminal stories.

Unfortunately the link to fanfiction.net leads to “Story not found” on the original website (which could be due to various reasons). I chose this story regardless, since even just the beginning of the story, accessible on http://theotherguystwilightfanfiction.wordpress.com, shows the great creativity of fans and inspired me as well to think deeper into underlying topics of the twilight saga.
